Is Gold Really ‘Recession Proof’? A Closer Look


Mike the Credit Guy, whose channel usually covers credit and personal finance rather than precious metals, makes the case here that gold is “recession proof” – shorthand for its track record of holding value better than stocks during downturns. “Recession proof” oversells it, though: gold can still be volatile in the short term, even if it’s historically been less correlated with equities during recessions. The underlying rules don’t change based on who’s making the case – gold in an IRA still has to clear IRC Section 408(m)’s purity bar. Here’s his short take.
