Week 6 of Retirement: It’s Been Great!

As I sit down to pen my reflections on week six of my retirement journey, I can’t help but smile at how liberating and fulfilling this new chapter has been. Gone are the early morning alarms and the daily grind; instead, I’ve embraced a lifestyle full of opportunities, joy, and personal growth. Here’s a glimpse into my experiences over the past week and why retirement has truly been great.

Embracing Freedom

The first six weeks of retirement have gifted me an abundance of freedom. No longer bound by the constraints of a typical 9-to-5 schedule, I’ve been able to wake up when I want and structure my days in ways that resonate with me. Interestingly, this freedom has not led to laziness; instead, it has fostered a sense of responsibility towards my own well-being and happiness. Daily routines have shifted to accommodate early morning walks, leisurely breakfasts, and spontaneous outings—all activities that infuse a sense of joy into my life.

Time for Hobbies and Passion Projects

One of the most gratifying aspects of retirement has been the ability to delve into hobbies that had fallen by the wayside during my working years. This week, I seized the opportunity to rekindle my love for painting. With a brush in hand and a cup of coffee by my side, I lost track of time in front of a canvas, expressing emotions and memories through colors. Not only has this creative outlet been therapeutic, but it has also ignited a spark of passion within me that I had forgotten.

In addition to painting, I’ve also dabbled in gardening. Growing my own vegetables and flowers has been incredibly rewarding.     Let's see – woke up at 7, went for a walk (5,500 steps), came home, showered, ate breakfast, went to the pool for a few laps, laid out in the sun for a bit, went in for lunch and cooked a nice fresh marinated chicken breast with some mashed potatoes, and a slice of 5-layer chocolate cake for desert, then watched the new episode of ___, and now I just received your text.
